WHAT’S NEW ?

VILLAGES ON THE FRONT LINE
a new series produced by dev.tv

International Year of Deserts and Desertification 2006

Nearly a billion people live with the dread of their land turning to dust. But the front line against desertification there are some surprising stories.

Six 25-minute documentaries and one 50-minute televised debate airing first on BBC World TV and BBC On-line.

A series based on surprise: promising strategies to cope with the causes of land degradation affecting a billion hectares worldwide.

The series will be aimed at a public who after more than 30 years of seeing stories on recurrent drought and stories of hopeless poverty and hopeless donor intervention, need to see another side.

Villages on the Front Line will intertwine personal stories from 4 continents. The issues thrown up by the stories will then be the subject of a 50-minute televised debate.
