WHAT’S NEW ?

VILLAGES ON THE FRONT LINE
the new series produced by dev.tv will be broadcast weekly on BBC World from October 27, 2006

Eight 25-minute documentaries and one 50-minute televised debate airing first on BBC World TV and BBC On-line. A series based on surprise: promising strategies to cope with the causes of land degradation affecting a billion hectares worldwide. The series will be aimed at a public who after more than 30 years of seeing stories on recurrent drought and stories of poverty and hopeless donor intervention, need to see another side. Villages on the Front Line will intertwine personal stories from 4 continents. The issues thrown up by the stories will then be the subject of a 50-minute debate.

The eight 25-minute documentaries were shot in Morocco, Niger, Tanzania, Jordan, Costa Rica, Haiti, China, India, and Spain.

The series will be distributed worldwide after BBC’s first airing.
